A clash of two sides with contrasting form coming into this tour, New Zealand having lost two tours in South Africa and India, and Pakistan having drawn in England and comfortably dispatched the West Indies at home.

The hosts will have a debutant opening the batting in Jeet Raval, and will welcome Tim Southee back after missing the India series through Injury. Pakistan are likely to keep a similar batting unit to the one that faced the West Indies, whilst bringing in an extra seamer as conditions dictate.

The Hagley Oval has hosted two Tests, both of which have seen three wickets falling before lunch on the first day, with sides scoring 370 and 441. This trend could continue here, with two very strong bowling line-ups likely to enjoy these conditions. With that in mind, backing overs for middle-order batsmen looks a great play, and Misbah's line at 29.5 is low enough to tempt me.

Trading notes: Lay the draw once the rain has abated, expecting wickets to fall early before the pitch flattens out, so be quick to cover this.
